Interim Pastor

Well, this is my inaugural “From the Pastor” page.  It was suggested that I introduce myself with a little bio data, so here goes.

Both my wife (Yvonne) and I are from the East coast – she from Niagara Falls N.Y and I from Pennsylvania and New Jersey.  A couple weeks after we were married we were off to Southeast Asia where I served as a volunteer working in Agriculture and rural development in Viet Nam.  We came to Southern Illinois where I worked at Southern Illinois University and Yvonne served as a nurse at St. Joseph Hospital in Murphysboro.  Prior to going to seminary in Louisville, I was the executive director for a crisis intervention and counselling center in Carbondale and then as executive director of the Jackson County Hospice agency.

While in seminary (1986-1989) I was the student pastor at the Presbyterian Church in Benton and stayed there after graduation for a total of 10 years.  From there I pastored the Marion church for 12 years until retirement.  Since retirement in 2008, I was a part time pastor at Metropolis for five years. And now, you and I are together at Harrisburg until you call a permanently installed pastor.

Yvonne and I have three children (3 girls and a boy), three grandchildren (all girls) and we live in the southwestern corner of Williamson County.

I was very pleased and honored when asked to serve this congregation.  I enjoy trying to be a good Pastor as well as a good preacher.  There seems to be a really healthy and energetic spirit in this church which makes me think that my time here will be enjoyable, rewarding and productive.  It certainly has been that way so far!!

So, that’s about me.  I look forward to learning more about each of you.  In the meantime, please know that you can call on me if there is any way I can be helpful.  My home phone is 618-964-1635, my cell is 618-967-0123 or you can e-mail me at: danwhitfield0@icloud.com

Amy and her family have been members of our congregation for several years, joining when Sam Foskey was serving as Pastor.  She started working part-time as church secretary in February, 2016.

She graduated from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona (where she learned to read the Navajo Language) with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and an emphasis in Bilingual/Multi-cultural Education, and later completed her Masters of Education degree in Instructional Technology through American-International University Online.

She also works as a substitute teacher in Harrisburg Schools, which she has done for nearly 10 years.  When she is not at church, you may often see her with a group of children at East or West Side Schools.

Before her children started school in Arizona, she worked part-time at Victory Lutheran Church, in Mesa, Arizona on their Mininstry Admin Team.  Her job involved helping put together church bulletins for up to four weekly worship services, a weekly activities/announcements sheet, monthly newsletters, and member files, as well as restocking children's worship bags each week.
